Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan completed trunk works of 19-km railway tunnel via Qamchiq bypass, Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) said in a statement. The new tunnel was constructed within the project on construction of electrified railway Angren – Pap. This project was implemented in cooperation of qualified specialists of Uzbekiston Temir Yollari and China Railway Tunnel Group. On the complexity of the construction, the tunnel is included in the eight and on the length in the thirteen in the world, being a unique building of its kind in the CIS. The trunk works at the tunnel were completed. Currently, facing works are underway and they were completed by 85%. Further works will include the laying of the railway and other communications in the tunnel. It is worth to mention that 104 km of electrified railway up to both sides of the tunnel in the end of 2015. Total length of the railroad makes up 123.1 km. Uzbekistan Temir Yollari started construction of electrified railroad Angren-Pap in July 2013. The road will go through Qamchiq Pass and link Ferghana Valley (Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions) with other part of Uzbekistan. China Railway Tunnel Group constructs tunnel of the railway with the cost of US$455 million. The cost of the project makes up US$1.2 billion. The project will be financed due to resources of the state budget, own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and loans of international financial institutions. Uzbekistan is planning to commission new electrified railroad Angren-Pap in July 2016.
