Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Economic potential of Uzbekistan was presented at a roundtable in the SCO headquarters in Beijing (China).

At the event, perspectives of practical cooperation within the SCO in the context of the upcoming Organization’s summit in Tashkent were also discussed.

The round table was attended by the SCO Secretary-General Rashid Alimov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to China Doniyor Kurbanov.

Rashid Alimov noted that 2016 - is a year of the 15th anniversary of the SCO. In June, Tashkent will host the historic Summit of Heads of Organization’s Member-States. With the purpose of wide presentation of Organization’s activity, events plan titled “SCO – our common house” is developed, which includes a series of events dedicated to SCO founder-States.

Doniyor Kurbanov introduced the participants a Report of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on dynamics and achievements of the socio-economic development, as well as the most important priorities of development of economy of the Republic for 2016 and till 2030, which was made on January this year. In this context, main approaches of Uzbekistan on the economic agenda of the SCO were also introduced.

Despite the difficult situation in the global economy, according to Chinese experts, high rates of economic growth are provided in Uzbekistan, broad program of modernization of production and infrastructure is successfully implemented, structural reforms are being conducted step by step.

The participants of the round table highly evaluated macroeconomic indicators of Uzbekistan, noted a sustainable budget surplus and high level of official reserves, as well as noted the low level of debt and stability of the banking system.

The participants specially emphasized careful and cautious approach of the Government in borrowing funds from international financial institutions. It was noted that due to comprehensive measures of Uzbekistan’s leadership, an impact of external shocks on economy of the country is reduced.

An exchange of views on the development of practical cooperation within the SCO, as well as on preparation and activities of statutory bodies of the SCO for the scheduled events within the presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Organization took place.

The participants emphasized that the world community attaches special attention to the forthcoming jubilee summit in Tashkent. It is expected that the following documents will be adopted at the Summit: the Tashkent Declaration of the member states devoted to the 15th anniversary of the SCO; the Anti-Narcotic Strategy for 2017-2022 and the Action Plan for its implementation; the Action Plan for 2016-2020 for the implementation of the Agreement on cooperation between governments in the fight against crime; as well as important documents on the expansion of the Organization.

Participants of the round table expressed confidence that the Tashkent SCO summit will make great contribution to the development of the Organization, strengthening its legal base, as well as ensuring security and stability in the region in accordance with reflected in the SCO Charter goals, objectives and principles.

The Republic of Uzbekistan is chairing in the SCO in 2015-2016.
