Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov held an online meeting with the foreign policy adviser to the Prime Minister of Latvia Dana Goldfinchs, Dunyo news agency reported.

They discussed the prospects for Uzbek-Latvian cooperation in the political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres, the course of preparation for upcoming bilateral contacts at various levels and issues of interaction within the UN and other international multilateral structures.

The adviser to the head of the Latvian government was familiarized with the key provisions of the Address of the President of Uzbekistan to the Oliy Majlis on the further reform and modernization of the country, the consistent implementation of democratic reforms that have become irreversible and sustainable.

Thorough preparation by the parties for the next round of inter-ministerial political consultations and the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation were discussed.

Information on the efforts of Uzbekistan to obtain the status of a beneficiary of the "GSP +" system by the republic, which allows duty-free import of 6 thousand items of domestic goods into the EU countries, is presented.

The special significance of 2021 for Uzbekistan was emphasized.

In particular, in September, the 30th anniversary of the acquisition of state independence of our country will be widely celebrated, in July it is planned to hold the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Interconnectedness. Challenges and Opportunities”, the Khiva Forum “Central Asia at the Crossroads of World Civilizations”.

Dana Goldfinchi’s attention is also drawn to the historic February 22 speech by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

During the conversation, the interlocutor stated Latvia’s commitment to taking practical steps aimed at a significant intensification of mutually beneficial cooperation with Uzbekistan.

It was especially emphasized that Riga is showing interest in increasing the level of partnership with Tashkent. They reaffirmed their readiness by joint efforts to fill the cooperation agenda with new practical content in the framework of upcoming contacts at various levels.

Dana Goldfincha agreed with the opinion on the importance of the soonest resumption of regular flights of Uzbekistan Airways on the Tashkent-Riga-Tashkent route, interrupted due to the pandemic. In her opinion, this will contribute to the expansion of business contacts, an increase in trade and activation of tourist exchanges.

The readiness of Latvia to support the aspirations of Uzbekistan for the republic to obtain the status of a GSP + beneficiary country and to sign the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) with the European Union was emphasized.

As a result of the event, an agreement was reached with the adviser to the Prime Minister of Latvia to maintain regular working contacts and exchange views and relevant information related to the agenda of Uzbek-Latvian cooperation.
