Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Trade Unions Federation hosted a meeting with the delegation of International Finance Corporation (IFC) to discuss plan of the realization of IFC project on production of socially responsible and ecologic clean cotton.
The IFC representatives briefed the Uzbek sides on goals and tasks of the IFC project. It was noted that the plan is aimed at creating sustainable business model for production of cotton in Uzbekistan, which will meet requirements of Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).
The IFC delegation noted that the use of BCI methodology will allow Uzbek farmers to increase production of cotton and decrease its prime cost, while textile producers will strengthen their positions in global markets.
The Uzbek side made several proposals on further improving the project. It was offered to develop technological map of cotton production, organize trainings for specialists, use ICT within the project, etc.
It was proposed to use potential of Uzbekistan Trade Unions Federation to ensure decent work in the pilot production units. It was said that specialists Uzbekistan Trade Unions Federation could train farmers and specialists to international standards, ILO Conventions, etc.
The IFC representatives expressed interest to further develop cooperation.
